When you shop with Aasra, you can trust that your purchase financially empowers destitute women and that your goods were made ethically and sustainably to the best of our ability. This is our way of chipping away at problems that plague our global community, working to alleviate poverty in the world's most marginalized communities.
A Simple Idea
Many non-profits working to assist vulnerable female populations host skill training programs, allowing the women to create an income for themselves and also allowing the non-profits to fundraise and supplement their ongoing community support programming and initiatives. Often these non-profits are so busy doing their remarkable work that they don't always have time to market the gorgeous products these ladies are making to the market outside their immediate geographic region.
Enter Aasra. An online platform for non-profits. We work directly with the organization to harness the skills being taught in these centers to design and create a specific Aasra line of products.
It is important to us to facilitate access to wider markets by creating opportunities for women who are facing extreme hardship and the grassroots non-profit organizations working to assist them.
We're Proud To Be Different
In a world of fast fashion, fueled by insatiable demand for cheap clothing and accessories, that has a devastating impact, from sweatshops and child labour to pollution and global warming, we aim to throw a wrench in the system. Engaging in slow fashion means standing up against exploitation of people, slum cities, pollution and large corporations where the bottom line is king and profits trump people.
While many fashion brands greenwash with talk about 'corporate social responsibility' or 'ethical fashion', we go a step further. We make products that are a living blueprint for our values: people and the planet are central to everything we do.
Fair Trade Fashion
We now live in a world where fair trade and ethical fashion is becoming more and more contemporary, accessible, and desirable. Our unique and high quality collection is an ode to this movement we are proud to partake in.
As we work with different non-profit organizations, we can't always control the supply chain but our aim is to follow and encourage the principles of Fair Trade & Sustainability in every aspect of our business. Our partnering organizations do their absolute best to minimize their environmental impact by sourcing fabric, dyes, yarn, and other raw materials from the most sustainable local sources available to them, choosing natural and recycled products over synthetic and non-biodegradable materials as often as possible.
